1.Check the car and its papers

2.Have it inspected before paying

4.Germany: deregistration and export plates
How to do itShow lessAgree the deregistration (Abmeldung) with the seller. To drive it home you need export plates (Ausfuhrkennzeichen) from the registration office: valid inspection (HU), a special policy and the tax paid. German short-term plates (Kurzzeitkennzeichen) are only valid in Germany.

5.Decide how to bring it home

8.Conformity: the COC
How to do itShow lessThe manufacturer’s European certificate of conformity (it can be digital). Without it, you need an individual approval (RTI) from the DREAL.
9.Carte grise application at the ANTS
How to do itShow lessOnline only (FranceConnect or France Identité), or through an authorised professional. You pay the taxes in the calculation and get a provisional certificate to drive 1 month in France.
